Both sides of the insert have chipbreakers to improve chip control and chip evacuation, which are critical to maintaining machine efficiency and insert life. In addition, the inserts are typically coated with a tough CVD coating that provides an excellent balance of toughness and wear resistance for a variety of cutting conditions. Material & Coating

CNMG 432  turning inserts are constructed from premium cemented carbide, a composite of ultra-fine tungsten carbide particles (1–2μm grain size) bonded with 6–8% cobalt. This base material delivers a hardness of 91–92 HRA, striking a balance between wear resistance and impact toughness—critical for withstanding the stresses of steel machining.


Most variants feature a multi-layer CVD coating (TiCN/Al₂O₃/TiN), approximately 8–12μm thick. This coating acts as a thermal barrier, resisting oxidation up to 1,100°C, and reduces friction between the insert and workpiece, minimizing built-up edge (BUE) formation on sticky materials like mild steel.
